PFAS may raise blood pressure during pregnancy. Who is at risk?
Pregnant women exposed to certain chemicals known as PFAS may have higher blood pressure, according to a new study. PFAS, or per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances, are a group of man-made chemicals that includes PFOA, PFOS, and GenX.
The study found that women with higher levels of PFAS in their blood had significantly higher blood pressure during pregnancy. The findings suggest that PFAS exposure may contribute to pregnancy complications and adverse birth outcomes.
The study was published in the journal Environmental Health Perspectives.
