RBI rate hike: What it means for loans, deposits and markets
The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has increased its repo rate by 25 basis points to 5.5%, a move aimed at curbing inflation. This decision is expected to impact loans, deposits, and financial markets.
The rate hike is a preventive measure as inflation is projected to rise in the coming months. This is the first rate increase since May 2020.
Analysts suggest that this move could lead to higher borrowing costs for individuals and businesses, potentially slowing economic growth.
The RBI has also raised the reverse repo rate by 25 basis points to 5.25%, and the marginal standing facility (MSF) rate and the bank rate by 25 basis points each to 5.75%.
