Pizza, Processed Meat, and Sweets Linked to Faster Cognitive Decline in Some Older Adults

A study led by Murdoch University and Alzheimer's Research Australia found that older adults with a common Alzheimer's risk gene who consumed more Western-style diets, rich in pizza, processed meat, and sweets, experienced faster cognitive decline.

The study followed 185 participants in Perth for over seven years, tracking their dietary habits and cognitive performance.

However, the findings do not suggest that Western diets cause cognitive decline in all older adults, only those carrying the APOE ε4 allele.
