Ethanol Could Offer Shipping Another Path to Lower Emissions

A new study finds that ethanol could become a practical alternative fuel for ships, particularly those already equipped with methanol-capable engines.

The study, conducted by the Mærsk Mc-Kinney Møller Center for Zero Carbon Shipping, found that ethanol could help reduce greenhouse gas emissions from shipping by up to 80%.

The study also found that ethanol could be produced using existing infrastructure and could be stored and handled safely on ships.
