Wood Street Steps in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania

The Wood Street Steps in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, are the last surviving examples of at least 10 stairways commissioned by the city's founder, William Penn, along the original Delaware Riverbank. Penn believed all citizens should have public access to the river wharves, leading to a compromise in 1684 with wealthy Quakers who owned land there. The steps are significant for their historical and architectural value.
