Neanderthal wooden tools from Spain found preserved in stone
Archaeologists have discovered wooden tools dating back to the Neanderthal era in Spain, remarkably preserved within stone. The tools, which include a wooden stake and a wooden rod, were found in a cave and are estimated to be around 44,000 years old.
The tools were preserved due to a unique geological process where dissolved rock precipitated around them, eventually decaying and leaving behind a stone mold of the tools.
