Baltic states push for EU-wide ban on Russian grain transit

The Baltic states of Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania have proposed an EU-wide ban on Russian grain transit to prevent Moscow from rerouting agricultural exports through European networks due to Black Sea disruptions.

The joint letter to European Council President António Costa and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen suggests blocking grain exports to limit Russia's ability to circumvent sanctions and export food.

The move comes as global food security concerns rise due to the war in Ukraine, a major grain exporter.
