African Union holds Kigali talks as fighting continues in eastern DRC
The African Union (AU) held talks in Kigali, Rwanda, with three former African presidents discussing security commitments, refugee protection, and regional cooperation amid ongoing fighting in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).
The talks come as the DRC government and M23 rebels signed a ceasefire agreement last week, although fighting continues in the region.
The AU envoys emphasized the need for all parties to respect the ceasefire and engage in dialogue to resolve the conflict.
The DRC has been plagued by violence and instability for decades, with millions of people displaced and thousands killed in recent years.
The talks are part of ongoing efforts to find a lasting solution to the conflict in the DRC.
