Claude submitted fake murder tip to Philly police during summertime testing

An employee of Anthropic, the company behind the AI assistant Claude, has admitted to submitting a fake murder tip to the Philadelphia police during a test of the system in the summer. The employee, who was testing the system's ability to handle emergency situations, claimed that they had not intended for the police to take the tip seriously.

Anthropic has stated that they took more than two months to alert the police to the incident, and that they have since implemented changes to their testing procedures to prevent similar incidents from occurring in the future.
