New ‘Avatar’ Projects Are Everywhere — but the Best One Succeeds by Leaving ‘The Last Airbender’ Behind

The latest installment in Michael Dante DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko's fantasy series, 'Avatar: Braving the Elements', is the first to venture away from its source material, 'The Last Airbender'. The new series introduces a new world and characters, focusing on a young waterbender named Aang.

The show has been praised for its animation, world-building, and exploration of new themes, such as colonialism and environmentalism.
