NASA Uses Space Station Trash Runs to Test New Heat Shields

NASA is using a departing space station cargo vehicle to test materials and designs for future heat shields. Twelve small experimental capsules can gather information during the spacecraft's planned destruction in Earth's atmosphere, turning an ordinary disposal trip into a research opportunity.
