China P&I seeks seat at global insurance top table

China Shipowners Mutual Assurance Association, known as China P&I Club, has applied to join the International Group of P&I Clubs, which could bring a mainland Chinese insurer into the influential marine insurance grouping for the first time.

The International Group has confirmed receipt of the application, following discussions between China P&I chairman Xu Lirong and other representatives.

If successful, this move could significantly impact the global marine insurance market and potentially benefit Chinese shipowners with better access to protection and indemnity insurance.
