Metropolitan Police's unchecked use of shoplifting platform lands force in trouble with data watchdog

The Metropolitan Police has been criticized by the UK's data watchdog for unlawfully uploading 179 people's details to a shoplifting platform called Auror, without proper privacy checks or corporate approval.

The Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) found that the force failed to conduct sufficient assessments before sharing the data, which included names, addresses, and dates of birth.

The ICO has ordered the police to delete the data and conduct a review of its data protection practices.
