Give mayors real powers, ensure timely civic audits, urban body heads tell Centre

Indian mayors have urged the central government to grant them more powers and ensure timely civic audits to improve urban governance.

The demand was made at a conference of mayors and municipal commissioners from across the country, where they also sought increased funding and decentralization of powers.
