Research Council of Norway Grants $2m in Nuclear Propulsion Project

The Marine Nuclear Propulsion System (MarNuPS) Pilot project has received initial funding of USD$2 million (NOK 20 million) from the Research Council of Norway. This project aims to develop a small nuclear reactor for marine use, which could significantly reduce greenhouse gas emissions from the shipping industry.

The project is a collaboration between the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU), the Institute for Energy Technology (IFE), and the Norwegian Defence Research Establishment (FFI).

The funding will support the first phase of the project, which involves conducting a feasibility study and developing a conceptual design for the reactor.
