EU Retreats From Arctic Oil Ban Language In Strategy Draft
The European Union (EU) appears to be softening its stance on Arctic oil and gas production, according to a draft strategy document. While still advocating for a ban on new oil and gas licenses, the EU is now open to considering existing licenses and exploration in the Arctic.
The shift comes as the EU seeks to balance its climate goals with energy security concerns, following Russia's invasion of Ukraine and subsequent reduction in gas supplies.
