Key Changes and Requirements
1. Lifeboat Release and Retrieval System (LRRS) Requirements
SOLAS Regulation III/1.5 requires all ships to identify and replace non-compliant on-load release mechanisms with compliant ones by the next scheduled dry-docking after July 1, 2024, but no later than July 1, 2027.
- Compliance: Manufacturers must follow a five-step process for compliance, including specific load and release tests.
- 5 Knots Installation Test: This test can be conducted in a more controlled environment with the ship stationary, using equivalent means to simulate the 5 knots speed.
- Risk Assessment: A thorough risk assessment must be conducted prior to the test, and the test must be witnessed by a Flag or Recognized Organization.
