Holding on board ceremonies/events-regarding.

Applicable to: All RPSL service providers, Indian flag ship-owners, and relevant maritime organizations
Effective Date: 13.06.2017
Superseded Circulars: None mentioned

Key Changes and Requirements

1. Ceremonies and Events Onboard

The Director General of Shipping advises against holding ceremonies/events onboard that could potentially lead to unwarranted incidents or be perceived as such.

  • If such events are arranged: A written consent should be taken from the seafarers, and the events should be held under the supervision of senior officers.

2. Prevention of Harassment and Bullying

Shipowners should put in place systems to prevent harassment and bullying of seafarers. They may nominate a senior officer on board as a counselor.

  • Counselor's Role: The counselor can be approached by any seafarer facing problems onboard or back home.
  • Mental Stress: Any sign of seafarers undergoing mental stress must not be ignored but should be promptly addressed.
