Key Changes and Requirements
1. Formation of Advisory Board
The Director General of Shipping has constituted an Advisory Board under Rule 8 of the Merchant Shipping (Recruitment and Placement of Seafarers) Rules, 2016.
- Composition: The board consists of the Additional Director General of Shipping (ex-officio, chairman), Deputy Director General of Shipping (Crew) (member-secretary), and representatives from Indian shipowners, recruitment and placement service agencies, and other stakeholders.
- Tenure: The tenure of the board is two years.
- Role: The board will advise on issues related to complaints and policy matters referred to it by the Director General of Shipping and the Recruitment and Placement Service Agencies.
