Key Changes and Requirements
1. Award Categories
The following awards will be given during the National Maritime Day celebrations:
- Varuna Award: Recognizes sustained and outstanding contribution to the Indian Maritime Sector.
- NMD Award of Excellence: Honors lifetime exceptional achievements in the Indian Maritime Sector.
- Outstanding Contribution to Maritime Education and Training: Recognizes sustained contribution to Maritime Education and Training.
- Gallantry Award: Recognizes exemplary acts of gallantry shown by Indian seafarers.
- Eminent Overseas Maritime Personality Award: Honors sustained and outstanding contribution to the Maritime Sector by overseas persons/organizations.
- Best Foreign Employer of Indian Seafarers: Recognizes the best foreign employer of Indian seafarers.
- Most Compassionate Employer of Indian Seafarers: Honors the most compassionate employer of Indian seafarers.
- Indian Shipping Company with Highest Growth of Indian Flag Vessels: Recognizes the Indian shipping company with the highest growth of Indian flag vessels.
- Ship (Indian Flag in Foreign Trade) of the Year: Honors the best Indian flag ship in foreign trade.
- Youngest Officer awarded IInd Mate Certificate of Competency in 2016: Recognizes the youngest officer awarded the IInd Mate Certificate of Competency in 2016.
- Youngest Officer awarded MEO Class IV Certificate of Competency in 2016: Honors the youngest officer awarded the MEO Class IV Certificate of Competency in 2016.
- Rating obtained IInd Mate/MEO Class IV Certificate of Competency in 2016: Recognizes the rating who obtained the IInd Mate/MEO Class IV Certificate of Competency in 2016.
2. Nomination Process
Nominations for the above categories should be sent to the National Maritime Day Celebrations (Central) Committee with full details of the nominee latest by 28th February, 2017.
Nominations will not be considered after the due date.
