Applicable to: All stakeholders involved in container shipping
Effective Date: 23.08.16
Superseded Circulars: MS Notice No. 4 of 2016 dated 11.05.16, MS Notice No. 7 of 2016 dated 24.06.16

Key Changes and Requirements

1. Clarification on Container Weighing and Charges

The Director General of Shipping clarifies that the amendments to SOLAS and the previous MS Notices do not require ports/terminals to re-weigh containers or impose additional charges. The stated additional processes or charges by terminals are not mandated and may hinder free trade practices.

II/4  Clarification on SOLAS amendments and MS Notices
Important Note

This office is of the considered view that these amendments should not be unfairly leveraged by intermediaries to impose additional burden/cost on exporters, hindering India's export trade.
