Key Changes and Requirements
1. Power and Jurisdiction
The Secretary or the Administrator of the respective States/Union Territories in charge of the Department of Fisheries will also exercise the power, authority, or jurisdiction exercisable under sub-section (1) of section 9 of the Merchant Shipping Act, 1958, irrespective of the size of the Indian fishing boats for their fishing function.
2. Ports and Registrars
The following ports or places in India are specified as Ports or places of registry for the purposes of section 435-D of the said Act, and the following officers are appointed as registrars of India in fisheries for the purposes of section 435-E of the said Act.
