Key Changes and Requirements

1. Boiler Training Alternatives

Seafarers without boiler experience can now choose between two options:

  • Option 1: Obtain a Certificate with 'not valid for service on vessels with boilers' limitation.
  • Option 2: Complete a suitable boiler training, which may include simulator training, in an approved maritime training institute.

2. Institute Approval and Course Fees

Institutes intending to conduct boiler courses must submit proposals to the Directorate for approval, along with a proper boiler (built not earlier than 1980) for demonstration.

The non-refundable processing fee for 'Marine Boiler & Steam Engineering Course - Operational Level' and 'Management Level' has been fixed as Rs.20,000/- and Rs.25,000/- respectively.
