The DGS has introduced a Common Entrance Test (CET) for admission to the General Purpose (GP) Rating pre-sea training course. This is to ensure better training standards and quality output of Indian GP Ratings.
- Conducted by: Board of Examination Seafarer Trust (BEST)
- Benefit: Increased prospect of employment in the global merchant shipping market
2. CET Qualification Mandatory
MTIs cannot admit candidates who have not qualified in the CET examination for the GP Rating courses.
- Consequences: MTIs risk losing their approval for not adhering to this rule
3. Aspiring Seafarers' Action
Aspiring seafarers should qualify in the CET examinations conducted by BEST in DGS-approved MTIs to be eligible for the Continuous Discharge Certificate – Cum – Seafarers Identity Document (CDC-SID).
Important: Check the DGS website (www.dgshipping.gov.in) for updates and approved MTIs.
