Temporary suspension of issuance of CDC under category of "Purser/Ship's clerk" --reg.

Applicable to: Indian Seafarers
Effective Date: 19th February, 2008
Superseded Circulars: None mentioned

Key Changes and Requirements

1. Temporary Suspension of CDC Issuance

The Director General of Shipping (DGS) has temporarily suspended the issuance of Certificates of Competency (CDC) under the category of "Purser/Ship's clerk" due to the recovery of fake CDCs in Mumbai.

  • Duration: Until further orders
  • Reason: To prevent disrepute to the Indian Flag Administration and protect employment opportunities for Indian seafarers worldwide
Note:  The position of "Purser/Ship's clerk" on board a merchant ship is not mandatory, and only a negligible number of foreign ships employ one.
Important Note

This order does not affect seafarers already holding a CDC in the "Purser/Ship's clerk" category. They may continue to serve in their current positions.
