Assessment of sea service for 2nd Mate and NWKO(NCV) examination
Key Changes and Requirements
1. Pre-Sea Training Requirement
Candidates starting sea service after 1st August, 1998 must have DGS-approved pre-sea training. Those who started before this date may not need it.
- Exception: Candidates who have already started their examination process without meeting the pre-sea training requirement can continue with the NWKO(NCV) stream, but no new candidates will be admitted to post-sea competency courses for NWKO(NCV) after 1st January, 2007.
2. Alternative Examination Path
Candidates with 10+2 PCM who have passed the NWKO(NCV) written exam and taken the post-sea competency course for 2nd Mate (FG) can still undergo the examination process for the 2nd Mate Certificate of Competency.
3. Sea Service Assessment
Sea service records from other nations' certificates may be considered for assessment.
4. NCV Stream Requirement
Candidates who have not done pre-sea training and started their sea career before 1st August, 1998 must follow the NCV stream.
