Key Changes and Requirements
1. Assessment of Sea Service
Until now, assessment of sea service for NCV cadre was done by training institutes. However, many candidates were found ineligible for examinations due to discrepancies.
- New Assessment Process: All assessments will now be carried out by Examination Centers of Mercantile Marine Department (MMDs).
2. Eligibility for Written Examinations
Candidates can start post-sea training classes after initial scrutiny of their sea service by an approved institute. However, they will only be eligible for written examinations after their sea service has been assessed by MMDs.
- Alternative Option: Candidates can also get their sea service assessed by MMDs prior to joining post-sea courses.
Implementation: This decision has been approved by the Chief Examiner of Master & Mates and will be implemented immediately.
