Type Approval for Life Saving Appliances

Applicable to: Ship Owners, Ship Managers, and Seafarers

Key Changes and Requirements

Life Saving Appliances (LSA) manufactured in India must have the approval of the Directorate General of Shipping (DGS).

Existing LSA: No Letter of Acceptance (LOA) required if approved by SOLAS 74, LSA Code, and IMO Resolutions.
New LSA installed in India: Must have type approval or LOA issued by DGS.
