Key Changes and Requirements
1. Mandatory Training and Certification — STCW Convention
All seafarers must complete and obtain certificates for the following training by 2024-06-30:
- Advanced Fire Fighting (A-FF): Refresher training every 5 years
- Cargo Handling and Stowage (CHS): Refresher training every 5 years
- Crowd Management (CM): Initial and refresher training every 5 years
- Designated Security Duties (DSD): Refresher training every 5 years
2. Electronic Charts and Navigation Warnings
Seafarers must be familiar with the latest electronic charts and navigation warnings. Regular updates are available on the Directorate General of Shipping website.
II/4 Electronic Charts and Bridge Navigation Watch Alarm System (BNWAS)
II/5 Global Maritime Distress and Safety System (GMDSS)
Important Note
Failure to comply with these requirements may result in penalties and suspension of service. Seafarers are advised to plan their training well in advance to avoid any last-minute rush.
