Levy of Penalty on MTIs for Data Correction
1. Background
The Directorate General of Shipping (DGS) has observed that some Maritime Training Institutes (MTIs) are indirectly collecting penalties from candidates for data correction, which is against the existing guidelines.
2. New Requirements
- MTI Bank Details: MTIs must submit their bank details to ttc-dgs@nic.in by 31.07.2022.
- Penalty Recovery Prohibited: MTIs are prohibited from recovering the penalty of Rs.3,000/- from candidates/seafarers/others. Any violation may result in a further penalty of Rs.50,000/-.
- Approval Suspension: If the violation continues, the Directorate may suspend the approvals of the MTI with immediate effect.
Important Note
MTIs are advised to strictly adhere to the guidelines to avoid penalties and suspension of approvals.
