Revised Public Notice by SPFO dated 10.03.2021
Applicable to:
All seafarers and shipping companies
Effective Date:
Immediate
Superseded Circulars:
None
Key Changes and Requirements
1. Non-Compliance and Consequences
Some shipping companies have not been depositing Provident Fund (PF) with the Seamen’s Provident Fund Organization (SPFO). This has led to some companies going into liquidation, leaving seafarers without their PF contributions.
- Impact: Seafarers are bearing the brunt of these non-payments.
2. Action Required for Affected Seafarers
If you are a seafarer who has performed voyages but your PF contributions have not been deposited, you are advised to approach the SPFO office by email at employee-commr@spfo.gov.in with documentary evidence.
- Evidence required: Copy of Continuous Discharge Certificate (CDC) book, Portage Bill, Account of Wages, and Copy of Article of Agreement.
Important Note
Non-compliance with the Seamen’s Provident Fund Act & Scheme, 1966 may result in seafarers losing their PF contributions.
