Requirements for the carriage of plastic pellets by sea in freight containers
Applicable to:
Vessels carrying plastic pellets (nurdles) calling at Indian ports or transiting through Indian coastal waters

Key Changes and Requirements
1. Cargo Stowage
Plastic pellets (nurdles) must be stowed under deck only. Carriage on deck is prohibited.
2. Packaging Standards
Packaging must meet or exceed IMDG Code standards for packaged dangerous goods to prevent leakage or loss during transport.
II/4 MARPOL Annex V prohibits discharge of plastics into the marine environment.
Important Note
Non-compliance may result in Port State Control or Flag State inspections and potential penalties.
