Discontinuation of approval for Augmentation for FPFF course

Applicable to: Maritime Training Institutes (MTIs)
Effective Date: 23.8.2018
Superseded Circulars: DGS Circular No. STCW 2010 Training Circular No. 03 of 2012

Key Changes and Requirements

1. Discontinuation of "Augmentation of FPFF" Course

The "Augmentation of FPFF" course will no longer be approved as a separate standalone course. The requirements will be verified during the approval of "Basic training for oil and chemical tanker cargo operations" and/or "Basic training for liquefied gas tanker cargo operations" courses.

  • Course Removal: The course will be taken out of the DGS approved courses list and will not be available on the DGS e-governance portal after 31/03/2019.
  • Transition Period: Candidates who have completed the basic courses but not the Augmentation course can still do so until 31/03/2019.

2. Changes to Basic Courses

The practical exercises for "Fixed fire-fighting foam system operations" and "Fixed dry chemical operations" will now be integral parts of the "Basic training for oil and chemical tanker cargo operations" and "Basic training for liquefied gas tanker cargo operations" courses, effective from 01/10/2018.

  • Course Syllabus: MTIs must include the practical exercises in the course syllabus and timetable.
  • Video Recording: MTIs must maintain video recordings of the practical exercises for at least 3 months.
  • Facility Requirements: MTIs must have their own facility or tie-up arrangement for providing the practical exercises by 01/10/2018.
II/4  Certificate of Proficiency in Basic Training
Seafarers completing the basic courses after 01/10/2018 will not need to do a separate Augmentation course to acquire the certificate.
Important Note

MTIs seeking approval for the FPFF course must have their own fire fighting mock-up or a tie-up arrangement with another MTI.
