Porsche teases mid-engined hypercar but axes plans for petrol Boxster, Cayman successor
Porsche has teased its first mid-engined hypercar, which will be part of its new range of electric sports cars. The German automaker has also confirmed that its next 718 model will be electric-only, axing plans for a petrol-powered successor to the Boxster and Cayman.
The new hypercar, codenamed 960, will be the most powerful and expensive Porsche ever built, with a targeted output of over 1,000 horsepower. It will be part of Porsche's new range of electric sports cars, which will also include the Taycan Cross Turismo and a new electric SUV.
The decision to go electric-only for the 718 model line is a significant shift for Porsche, which has traditionally offered petrol and diesel engines alongside electric powertrains. The move is part of the company's broader strategy to offer at least one electric variant in every model series by 2025.
