US imposes sanctions on ICC, hours after former judge Pillay wins Nobel peace prize – as it happened

The US has imposed sanctions on the International Criminal Court (ICC), hours after former ICC judge Navi Pillay won the Nobel Peace Prize. The sanctions target ICC officials and their families, and aim to prevent the court from investigating alleged war crimes committed by US personnel in Afghanistan.

The ICC's deputy prosecutor condemned the sanctions, stating that they would not halt the tribunal's work. The US, however, accused the ICC of unfairly targeting Americans for war crime charges and claimed that it 'doesn’t need' the court.
