Global shipbuilding boom moves into overdrive

The global shipbuilding boom is accelerating, with order books surpassing their 2008 peak, Chinese yards dominating, and tanker owners turning to less experienced builders for delivery slots. New figures from BIMCO show the global order book at 203.2m compensated gross tonnes (cgt) in early September, up 13% from last year.
