Key Changes and Requirements
1. Transitional Provisions
The STCW 2010 Amendments enter into force on 01 January 2012. Full compliance is expected by 01 January 2017.
- Seafarers: Must comply with new requirements by 01 January 2017.
- Companies: Ensure seafarers comply with new requirements by 01 January 2017.
2. IMO Circulars
The IMO has issued two circulars for clarification and guidance:
- STCW.7/Circ.16: Clarification of transitional provisions
- STCW.7/Circ.17: Advice for Port State Control officers
II/4 Seafarers must comply with new requirements by 01 January 2017.
Important Note
All stakeholders are advised to comply with the requirements of these STCW Circulars for the purpose of compliance with the STCW 2010 Amendments.
