Key Changes and Requirements
1. Revised OOW-SMS Requirements
The Directorate has revised the requirements and specifications of the Full Mission type Officer of the Watch Ship Maneuvering Simulator (OOW-SMS) as per Annexure-I.
- Key Changes: The revised simulator specifications are less advanced and less expensive, making pre-sea training more affordable.
2. Compliance and Deadline
All pre-sea training institutes conducting nautical discipline courses and dual courses must comply with this circular by 30th September, 2009.
- Action: Install or upgrade the simulator as per the revised specifications (Annexure-I) and obtain DGS approval.
Important Note
Institutes that have already installed the simulator as per the superseded circular (No.28 of 2005) may retain it. They may also choose to upgrade to the revised specifications or the higher version as per the superseded circular.
