1. Lessons Learnt from Vessel Grounding
A bulk carrier grounded in Indian waters during monsoon months due to heavy weather, delay in anchor heaving, and inadequate seamanship. The vessel broke, causing oil spill and loss of life.
- Recommendations:
- Prepare comprehensive anchorage plans.
- Calculate stability criteria with caution to maintain adequate propeller submergence and reduce windage area.
- Understand and train for contingency plans.
- Masters should observe good seamanship, especially during monsoon months.
SOLAS/STCW - Masters should comply with provisions.
Important Note
Shipowners, managers, and Masters are advised to review and implement the guidelines in DGS Circular No.6 of 2006 and Monsoon Advisory M.S. Notice No.12 of 2008.
