Key Changes and Requirements
1. Shore Base Maintenance Contract (SBMC) & Annual Testing
The Maritime Safety Committee has approved guidelines for shore-based maintenance of satellite EPIRBs and annual testing of 406 MHz EPIRBs.
- Action Required: EPIRB service stations in India must comply with these guidelines and make their service stations available for inspections by IRS/MMDs by March 2009.
- Certificates: Based on IRS/MMDs' recommendations, service stations will issue Shore-Based Maintenance of Satellite EPIRBs certificates and 406 MHz EPIRB Annual Test Record certificates.
