Key Changes and Requirements
1. Mandatory Safety Drills and Instructions — MLC, 2006 Regulation 19.2.1
All ships must conduct the following drills and provide instructions to the crew:
- Fire Drill: Every 2 months
- Abandon Ship Drill: Every 3 months
- Mustering and Assembly Drill: Every 6 months
- Security Drill: Every 6 months
2. Company Safety Management System (SMS) Audits — ISM Code, Section 8
Companies must conduct internal audits of their Safety Management System (SMS) at least once every 3 years.
II/4 Internal audits must be conducted by a qualified and independent auditor.
Important Note
Failure to comply with these requirements may result in penalties as per the Merchant Shipping Act, 1958.
