Key Changes and Requirements
1. New Requirements for Life-Saving Appliances
Liferafts, lifejackets, lifebuoys, pyrotechnics, and re-boarding devices must be carried as per the new table (Table 1).
- Liferafts: Category 1 & 2 must have 2 liferafts, Category 3 & 4 optional.
- Lifejackets: 100% of persons on board must have lifejackets, with an additional 10% or 2 for inflatable types.
- Lifebuoys: Category 1 & 2 must have 1 with light and 1 without, Category 3 & 4 not required.
2. Updated Fire-Fighting Equipment
Fire-fighting equipment requirements have been updated as per Table 2.
- Power driven fire pump: Required for Category 1 & 2, optional for Category 3 & 4.
- Portable fire extinguishers: Required for all categories, with varying numbers based on category.
3. Changes in Radio and Navigational Equipment
Radio and navigational equipment requirements have been updated as per Tables 3 & 4.
- VHF radio: Required for all categories, with varying numbers based on category.
- EPIRB: Required for all categories.
- Magnetic compass: Required for all categories, with varying types based on category.
II/4 Existing certificates issued under DGS Order No. 07 of 2016 or any previous notification/guidelines shall continue to remain valid until expiry.
Important Note
Any major modification, alteration, conversion, change in service, or re-certification undertaken after the coming into force of these revised guidelines shall comply with the applicable provisions of these revised guidelines.
