Ship in campus in lieu of afloat training in training institute.
Key Changes and Requirements
1. Introduction of 'Ship in Campus' Training
The Directorate General of Shipping introduces 'Ship in Campus' as an alternate to on-board ship training for marine machinery maintenance and repair. It consists of a simulated structured ship with operational engine and other engine room installations.
2. Institute Responsibilities and Assistance
Institutes should draw specifications for the ship, prepare layouts, and structure the 'ship in campus' according to suitable standard designs. The Directorate has approved IIT, Kharagpur to provide services for planning and execution of 'ship in campus'.
- Assistance: IIT, Kharagpur will assist in design, advising specifications, and supervising installation
- Charges: To be finalized between the institute and IIT, Kharagpur
3. Institute Preferences and Deadlines
Institutes should consider having 'ship in campus' as an alternate to on-board training. Preference will be given to institutes that agree to have 'ship in campus' and sign an MoU with IIT, Kharagpur. Alternatively, institutes must provide proof of tie-up with a ship repair workshop for practical training.
Institutes shall have 24 months to structure the 'ship in campus' after signing the MoU. Approval for courses will be considered favorably during this period.
After satisfactory installation and completion of 'ship in campus', no further approval will be required for afloat training from the Directorate separately.
