Key Changes and Requirements
1. Garbage Disposal Obligations
Ships are mandated to use garbage reception facilities at ports, as per MARPOL Annex V Regulation 7(1) and the Merchant Shipping (Prevention of Garbage from Ships) Rules 2009.
2. COVID-19 Precautions
Para 5.2 of DGS Order No. 02 of 2020 dated 16.03.2020 requires garbage to be properly disinfected before landing ashore to prevent COVID-19 transmission.
Compliance: All concerned are to comply with the above guidelines after taking adequate precautions.
